Our story

Get to know our story and our history Cherry Orchard Resort High Tatras

The story of our ancestors is not exceptional – for several generations they lived in the foothills of the High Tatras and farmed on the poorly fertile fields. They farmed together and always knew how to honour every festive moment, dressed in typical Mengus costumes. Their life looks idyllic in period photographs…

Our father, Pavel Šoltis, left the farm for school in Bratislava, then to Bohemia and later chose a different life in central Slovakia, where he started a family. He broke out of the century-long cycle, but he always loved to return to his native Mengusovce and his beloved High Tatras. As children, we too often spent holidays at the house of my grandmother and aunt. We used to work outside behind the house, in the orchard full of cherry trees, which bloomed fragrantly in spring.

When grandma and aunts passed away forever, the grounds fell into disrepair. Our father had a desire to put things back in order for the family. He gave impetus to a project which, years later, is gradually coming to fruition. Unfortunately, he did not live to see it. In 2014, construction work began on the resort, which we gave the apt name of Cherry Orchard. A modern apartment complex with a wellness centre was added to the original country houses, and later a guesthouse. In addition to the old trees, we also planted young cherry trees…

Our intention remains to create a place that allows visitors to experience the unique charm of the Tatra Mountains and the Tatra countryside.  And the comfort and relaxation that our ancestors lacked.
